Councillor Calls On Government To Cut VAT On Energy Bills
Posted by Conservatories Expert2012
The high cost of energy bills is hurting homeowners up and down the country. The latest well-known figure to put their views forward on the subject of energy bills is Eddie Martin, the leader of Cumbria County Council who believes that the Chancellor of the Exchequer should scrap VAT on them.
He has written a letter to George Osborne encouraging him to take such action as current statistics show that there are an estimated 28% of households in the county living in fuel poverty. This occurs when a homeowner is paying more than 10% of their income on household fuel.
Mr Martin believes a cut in VAT would go a long way towards eradicating the problem:
“I appreciate the current financial restrictions and the limited room for manoeuvre but would argue, nonetheless, that caring for the vulnerable in our midst must take priority.”
It is easy to understand why Mr Martin and many others are encouraging a solution to the problem as fuel poverty can have huge implications on the health and overall wellbeing of homeowner’s and the people who live with them.
If at all possible and if you can afford it, you should get your home equipped with double glazing in Sheffield. A double glazed window is far more effective at storing the heat produced by your boiler and will not allow outdoor air to make its way into your home. Because of this improvement in energy efficiency it also means that the current cost of your energy bills will decrease.
Conservatories Windows Outlet understand that not everyone will be able to afford installing double glazing in every room. No problem, as we can put it in those rooms you use most. We also stock a selection of conservatories in Doncaster and conservatories in Sheffield for those interested.
